Lake Linow

Let's go on a trip to Lake Linow in Tomohon, North Sulawesi, Indonesia

Lake Linow is one of the famous tourist attractions in Tomohon City, North Sulawesi. This lake is a natural crater created from a volcanic eruption about 500 thousand years ago.

The word Linow is taken from the Minahasa language, namely waxan which means a gathering place for water. In this lake, we can see the color of the water that can change color to green, blue and brownish yellow. Changes occur because of the sulfur elements that are buried in the lake and the refraction and reflection of sunlight which causes the color of the water in Lake Linow to change.

The nature is also beautiful with the main dish panoramic views of the mountains and hills. there are flowers that thrive around this area and earned it the nickname City of a Thousand Flowers.

Its position which is flanked by Mount Lokon and Mount Mahawu makes the air around this lake cool. In addition, the beautiful view of the lake is also one of the attractions for tourists to visit. Uniquely, this lake can emit 3 different colors, namely green, blue and brownish yellow. 30 km from Manado City or takes about 1 hour drive,

Linow Lake can be reached 3 km to the west from Tomohon City. During the trip, we are presented with a green view of the hills overgrown with large trees. Mount Lokon which is still active is also a panorama presented here. Having an almost perfect triangular shape, this mountain seems to spoil the eye with the green trees.

Sometimes this lake is dark green, but a few hours later there is a change. Where green mixed with blue and white dominates. According to folklore, this is due to the elemental sulfur contained in it and exposure to sunlight.

Visitors can come in the morning when the air is still so clean, because at this time is the best time to be able to enjoy the beauty of Lake Linow. There is one thing that I like the most is the tranquility and coolness that is near the tourist attraction. Unfortunately, visitors are not allowed to swim because the sulfur content is quite high which can make the body hurt or even fatal.

This attraction is open every day. The best time to visit this lake is in the morning and evening. Visitors can enjoy the cool air while accompanied by birdsong in the morning. Enjoying the sunset with a cup of coffee in the afternoon is also the right choice to relax. The gate opens at 10.15 and closes at 18.15.
