Please note that in Fort Moraya we can also find the Waruga Stone Monument and Amphitheather
Waruga
Waruga itself comes from two words "waru" which means "house" and "ruga" which means "body". So literally, waruga means "the house where the body will return to heaven". When the corpse is inserted into the waruga, the corpse will be in a heel position that is in contact with the buttocks, and the mouth is as if kissing the knee. Just like the position of the baby in the womb.
The philosophy of this position for the Minahasa community is that humans start life with a baby in the womb, so they should end life in the same position. In the local language, this philosophy is known as "whom". Not only that, the corpse is also placed in a position facing north which indicates the ancestors of the Minahasa tribe who came from the north.
